Hope Housing

Hope Housing is a new construction, two-story multi-family residential development
designed to expand access to stable, supportive housing within the City of Holland. The
building is constructed as a slab-on-grade structure with standard footings and forms
part of a larger, coordinated neighborhood investment focused on strengthening
housing options and community resources in the area.

The development includes a total of 14 apartment units, offering a mix of one- and two-
bedroom layouts. Unit designs emphasize accessibility, durability, and efficient use of
space, supporting a range of household needs while maintaining long-term operational
sustainability. The building program also includes a community room and meeting room,
providing space for resident gatherings, service coordination, and community-building
activities.

Hope Housing was developed under the Michigan State Housing Development
Authority (MSHDA) 9% Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) program. The project
was designed to meet MSHDA expectations for quality, accessibility, and long-term
performance in affordable housing developments.

Site improvements include construction of a new parking lot and the installation of
electric vehicle charging stations, supporting both resident needs and broader
sustainability and transportation goals. Site circulation, lighting, and landscaping were
coordinated to promote safety, accessibility, and integration with the surrounding
neighborhood context.

The project is designed to achieve a minimum of LEED Silver + Net Zero certification,
reflecting a commitment to sustainable design and energy efficiency. Anticipated
strategies include improved building envelope performance, energy-efficient systems,
water-conserving fixtures, and durable materials that support reduced operating costs
and healthy indoor environments.

Hope Housing incorporates rental assistance through the utilization of Section 811
vouchers to support residents with disabilities, including both project-based and tenant-
based vouchers. This layered funding approach enhances housing stability and
affordability while allowing flexibility to meet individual resident needs.

As part of the broader Kollen-Park neighborhood initiative, Hope Housing contributes to
a coordinated effort to deliver high-quality, sustainable, and supportive housing. The
project reflects a commitment to inclusive community development by combining
thoughtful design, regulatory compliance, and targeted rental assistance to serve
residents most in need of stable housing options.
